JAKARTA - World football legend from Brazil, Pele died at the age of 82 after battling his illness. Pele died in hospital in Sao Paulo on December 29.

The man whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento in recent months has indeed been undergoing chemotherapy. It was a follow-up after surgery to remove his intestinal tumor in September 2021.

The character who was born in Minas Gerais is often labeled as one of the best football players in history. The following is Pele's long journey before he died and is remembered as a legend, as reported by Antara:

1940

October 23 became the beginning of Pele's life. He was born on that date in northern Rio de Janeiro. Named Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pele's father is a diligent amateur footballer.

1943

This year became the moment when Pele's name was sparked, it started when Edson Arantes do Nascimento became a supporter of Bile who was a footballer and friend of his father. The three-year-old boy could not properly say Bile's name and called it Pele who was then attached to his figure.

1956

Pele played his first game with Brazilian Santos on September 7 which he then continued to defend for the next 18 years.

1957

One year career in football, he has had the opportunity to play Brazil in the Copa America match against Argentina. At the age of 16 and 9 months, Pele scored the first goal out of a total of 77 goals for the Brazilian national team.

1958

Pele's name is worldwide, because this young man managed to score two goals in the World Cup final when Brazil won 5-2 over host Sweden. To this day Pele remains the youngest player and scores in the World Cup final.

1962

After the first World Cup to catapult his name, Pele also won the league four seasons in a row with Santos. This year Pele is back playing his second World Cup on Chile, but Injuries cost him most of the tournament off the bench, although Brazil finally won again.

1969

Pele scored his 1000th goal after converting a penalty kick for Santos against Vasco de Gama on November 19. The match was postponed for 20 minutes as Pele ran around the stadium as a sign of respect.

1970

June 21 Pele helped Brazil win the World Cup title, it was also his third achievement and made him the only player to win three World Cups. Pele helped Brazil win 4-1 over Italy with a header which later became one of the most iconic football moments.

1971

Pele played his last game for Brazil at the age of 30 on July 18. At that moment Brazil drew 2-2 againstTEN at the Maracana Stadium.

1975

34-year-old Pele joined New York Cosmos on June 10. His partnership played a role in revolutionizing American football.

1977

October 1st was Pele's last game in his career, he took the time to appear in the first half for Cosmos and the second half for Santos at the Giants Stadium in New York. FIFA statistics say Pele has played in 1,363 games and scored 1,281 goals.

1994-1998

Pele was appointed Minister of Sports of Brazil and made him the first black citizen to occupy an important position.

1999
