JAKARTA - Persib Bandung coach Robert Rene Alberts has prohibited the players from celebrating New Year's Eve. He asked them to stay at home to avoid unwanted things if they forced their way out of the house.

As quoted by Antara from the club's official website from Jakarta, Tuesday, the ban is in line with the Bandung City Government's instructions that prohibit its citizens from celebrating New Year's Eve on city streets.

"If this has become a government instruction, of course, we will follow it. We will instruct players to follow these rules and continue to carry out health protocols," said Robert.

On New Year's Eve, usually the city centers in Bandung will be packed with celebrating people, including Persib Bandung players. However, due to the high rate of COVID-19 transmission, it is now prohibited.

According to Robert, although the potential for sportsmen to recover from COVID-19 is quite large, as has been experienced by the spearhead of Wander Luiz, but he does not want his players to contract this deadly virus.

The Brazilian striker later tested negative after undergoing self-quarantine for 14 days. While undergoing quarantine, Wander Luiz did not experience any complaints until he finally returned to training with the Maung Bandung team last September.

"These footballers are quite sensitive. If something happens to them, they will not be able to play and will only be able to return to play for quite a long time. So, we all have to be vigilant and follow proper health protocols," he added.

On the one hand, he hopes that 2021 will give fresh air about competition. Robert Alberts wants PSSI's plan to hold the Indonesian League 1 in February next year can actually be realized.

If it can scroll, the option without an audience is still a realistic choice for now. This condition was carried out by Europe's top leagues which still limited audience attendance.

"Let's focus on looking at the 2021 League, without spectators is not a problem because this is also experienced by many clubs around the world. So why can't we do it here in Indonesia," said the former Arema FC coach.

"I often wonder why we can't run matches like in many other countries? But no one can give a clear answer," concluded Robert Rene Alberts.
