JAKARTA - The name Federico Valverde is predicted to be a player who will show off at the Qatar 2022 World Cup. This cannot be separated from his performance with Real Madrid this season.

Valverde was so crazy in Los Blancos uniform. He became "roh" in the La Liga giants line. The 24-year-old also often scored important goals for Madrid.

However, the opposite situation occurred in the Uruguay national team. Valverde seemed to have lost his spur at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

There is no magic touch from the player. So what's wrong?

There is an assumption that Valverde's position in Uruguay is not suitable because he is placed as a defensive midfielder. While at Real Madrid, he played more in the future, namely as a winger.

However, this assumption was denied by Uruguay coach Diego Alonso. He considered Valverde to be very suitable as a defensive midfielder.

The coach actually highlighted other players who should have performed better overall so that Valverde could "brighter".

"I think Federico has played a full match with us in qualifying. He played in the same position," Alonso said, as quoted by Livescore.

"I think he's playing defensive midfielder with the second axis along with Bentancur. That's the same position you saw today. He's even playing ahead or as a wing midfielder."

"I think the main skill is to play through the middle path. With us, he showed great performance in that position," he continued.

Alonso later said Valverde was just unlucky, including against South Korea in the first match of the 2022 World Cup. At that time, he let go of several threats that unfortunately were fruitless.

"For us, he is an important player with a lot of skills. When the team plays better, I'm sure he will shine more," said Alonso.
