Canelo Make Sure That The Rematch Of The Lightweight Against Bivol Is Priority

JAKARTA - Saul "Canelo" Alvarez continues his rehabilitation after undergoing surgery on his left wrist. He is expected to hit again in mid-January.

To that end, Canelo hopes to fight in May and then look for a rematch against Dmitry Bivol in September.

The Mexican boxer clarified during an interview with La Saga that if the rematch against the Russian fighter is approved, it will have the same weight as their first fight, which is a light heavyweight.

Canelo thought he could beat Bivol in that heavyweight and ensured that his defeat was due to him not being able to train optimally during the weeks leading up to the fight.

"Of course I can (beaten Bivol), this is not a problem to trust him, I know I can beat him," he was quoted as saying by Marca, Thursday.

In the first duel, Bivol was so dominant over Canelo that Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez thought that Canelo should not look for a rematch, as he had no chance to beat Bivol in a light heavyweight fight.

Canelo said he had great respect for Chavez, but his priority was to fight against Bivol, the fighter who gave him both professional defeats.

"I respect Chavez, I will always respect him, he knows that, but in the end it's not about what he wants."

Canelo added that his desire to rematch against Bivol was not without reason. That's because he believes he can win.

"There is something I want to do and I know I can win. I know how I entered the ring last time, I know what I can do and I will do it," he added.

Canelo insists, in the first duel, he fought well, competitively and lacked only a few rounds to win the fight.

"Because I couldn't do the right training, I won the first round and then I started to get tired."
