Beer Is Prohibited Around Qatar's 2022 World Cup Stadium, Oliver Bierhoff: That's Part Of The Tournament

JAKARTA - A controversial decision was made again ahead of Qatar's 2022 World Cup. Beers are prohibited from being around the stadium.

The World Football Federation (FIFA) says beer will not be sold to supporters. This decision was taken after discussions with the host.

"A decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing the beer sales point from the perimeter of Qatar's FIFA 2022 World Cup stadium," FIFA said in a statement.

This decision received criticism from German national team official Oliver Bierhoff. He admitted that he could not understand this policy.

The former AC Milan player later stated that FIFA and Qatar should have announced the decision earlier.

"(Decisions) are unfortunate and cause uncertainty," said Bierhoff, quoted by ANTARA via AFP, Friday, November 19. "Of course, beer is part of the tournament."

"I don't understand the decision and especially the time. There is enough time for that before," he continued.

German national team captain Manuel Neuer also spoke. He believes fans will not like the decision.

"The short-term nature (decision) and spontaneity are things that fans don't like. It would be better to say it from the start," he said.
