JAKARTA - The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) utilizes the G20 Summit in Bali as a promotional event for the ANOC World Beach Games (AWBC) which will also be held on the Island of the Gods next year.

Promotions were carried out by opening outlets (booths) at several G20 meeting places, namely at the location of the G20 Sherpa meeting at the Bali Intercontinental Jimbaran and the arrival and departure gate of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

"We want to maximize the socialization of the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games in the G20 momentum. Today we are at the location of the Sherpa G20 meeting to socialize that Indonesia has the opportunity to host the second edition of the AWBC next year in Bali," said KOI Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari at a press conference that was attended virtually in Jakarta, Sunday as reported by Antara.

Okto, Raja Sapta's nickname, added that the promotional activity was also carried out as a form of socialization that Bali had returned to being open to foreign tourists and hosting international sports after being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Okto added that the presence of KOI at the G20 meeting was also an opportunity to meet with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach who was scheduled to give a speech at one of the event forums ahead of the G20 Summit.

Together with IOC member Erick Thohir, we will pick up the IOC President who will attend and give a speech at the G20 forum. Then there is also FIFA President Gianni Infantino who will be involved and participate in the G20," he said.

AWBG is the largest beach sport multi-branch event to be attended by around 1,500 athletes from more than 130 countries. The event will also be attended by representatives from the 205 National Olympic Committees (NOC), 36 international sports federations from various countries, as well as high-ranking international sports organizations including the IOC leadership, and the WADA World Anti-Doping Agency.

Indonesia will host the second edition of the AWBG on August 5-12 2023 in Bali. The event will compete in 14 sports, namely aquathlon, beach handball, beach football, beach tennis, beach volleyball 4x4, beach water polo, beach wrestling, individual discipline karate, kite surfing, as well as 5km open water swimming, 3x3 basketball, beach sprint rowing, surfing, and airbadminton.
