16 Days Towards The 2022 World Cup: Sergio Ramos Please Enter The Spanish National Team Squad

JAKARTA Sergio Ramos hopes to be called by coach Luis Enrique to enter the Spanish squad which will feature at the Qatar 2022 World Cup this month after he performed well with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The former Real Madrid player has made 180 appearances for the Spanish national team, including in the last four World Cups. That number is far more than any player in the country's history.

However, the veteran defender was not included in Enrique's squad for last year's European Cup due to injury with Real Madrid. The same problem made him appear only eight times as a starter in Ligue 1 in his first season with PSG.

However, now he is fit and has performed regularly at the beginning of this season. Therefore, he also targets to return to the La Furia Roja squad for the first time since March 2021 against Kosovo.

"Everyone knows what it means for me to defend my country. After a difficult season, I feel fit again. I play again and I am ready. I still hope to be selected and dream of appearing in the World Cup," Ramos said., reported by Monitor, Friday, November 4th.

Ramos is part of the Spain squad that lifted the 2010 World Cup trophy in South Africa. Together with Spain, he also successfully presented the European Cup trophy back to back 2008 and 2012.

If called up to the Spanish squad then the World Cup in Qatar could be his last appearance. The reason is, he is already 40 years old in the next World Cup edition which will be held in America, Canada and Mexico, in 2026.

"I have to wait and continue to play at the best level to convince the coach. I hope I will have the opportunity to play in the World Cup again," he said.

"If I thought it was over, I would stay home to take care of my children, but I think I could last a few more years at the best level in football," he added.

The Spanish national team has released 55 names of players who are ready to be selected before the 2022 World Cup. Ramos is on the list, but he is reportedly not brought Enrique to Qatar because the coach wants to rely on the names of young players.
