Why Did Real Madrid Fail To Win The Club Of The Year Trophy Despite Champions La Liga And Champions League?

JAKARTA - Real Madrid is the most powerful candidate to receive the club award of the year's best in the Ballon d'Or gala. The reason is, they won La Liga and made history in the Champions League.

On the way to the champions, Los Blancos got rid of all favorites, including PSG, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in the final. However, the facts say otherwise.

The winners are Manchester City and De Bruyne received the award from Luis Figo. Real Madrid, in fact, are in third place, as runners-up is Liverpool.

"We can't win the Champions League but we have had a great season. Guardiola is always trying to get us forward. He is the best, really," De Bruyne said.

At first glance, words could be the answer to the question of why City won this award. However, there has been no clear answer because the voting system was not revealed.

This is the first time the award has been awarded and goes against the Ballon d'Or, not being selected by journalists.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid closed 2022 with four titles out of five possibilities, apart from La Liga and Champions, last season's Spanish Super Cup against Athletic, and the European Super Cup this August against Eintracht.

Manchester City won the Premier League but lost to Liverpool in the FA Cup semifinals and were eliminated by West Ham in the last 16 of the League Cup.

De Bruyne received the award with Ederson and two directors, Txiki Begiristain who is the director of football and Ferran Soriano who is the executive director of Manchester City.

"He is someone important for this project. He lives in a constant evolution and always comes up with something new. And he is a good person, when we lose he was a leader and when we won, he shared the win with everyone," said Begiristain of Guardiola.
