World Athletics Admittedly Since September, The Jakarta Marathon Will Be Held Again October 16

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Marathon event is back in Indonesia after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is now ready to be held on Sunday the day after tomorrow with a start at the North Plaza Gelora Bung Karno Complex.

Inspira CEO, organizer of the Jakarta Marathon Ndang Mawardi in Jakarta, Friday said this year's event took the theme Reborn which means being born again and rising again to regulate life after being disturbed by the pandemic. This activity is also expected to be used as a momentum as the end of the pandemic transition to endemic, especially soon that Indonesia will hold the peak of the G20 Presidency in November.

Ndang also said that this year's theme was very fitting because the Jakarta Marathon had officially transformed and was officially recognized by the World Athletics last September.

"We have received the recognition of World Athletics and are the only marathon in Indonesia to be elected as the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Ranking Group," Ndang said as quoted by Antara, Friday.

"Thus, Indonesian runners no longer need to bother to get qualifying rankings so that they can meet the qualification for running in world marathons," he added.

There are six prestigious marathons in the world that are included in the Abbott World Marathon Majors list, namely the Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon, London Marathon, Berlin Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and New York City Marathon.

Ndang said that a total of 15,300 runners, including foreign runners from 25 countries who have registered to participate in this year's Jakarta Marathon from four categories, namely Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10KM, and 5KM.

Marathon participants were recorded 1,648 participants, Half Marathon 3,109 participants, 10K 3,973 participants, 5K 5,455 participants. As for foreign participants as many as 864 people from 25 countries.

In addition, the Jakarta Marathon was also attended by four elite world-ranked runners, two of whom were from Japan and two from Ethiopia and Kenya.

The Jakarta Marathon route will pass through a number of icons of the capital city, such as the GBK Senayan area, Semanggi Bridge, Gambir-Monas area, Kota Tua, New Passer, Cathedral Church, Istiqlal, Banteng Field, Pancasila Building, Tugu Tani, Djoeng Building, TIM, Metropole-Megaria, Kunstkring Cut Mutia, Jalan Soerabaja, Proclamation Statting Museum, PFN Usmar Ismail Building, and Satria Mandala Museum before finishing at the North Plaza GBK.
