Barcelona Ready To Build A Lionel Messi Statue At The Nou Camp Courtyard

JAKARTA Barcelona president Joan Laporta claims his club will build a statue of their former player as well as the legend of their life Lionel Messi in the Camp Nou yard.

As is known, Messi is considered the best player ever owned by the Blaugrana in the club's history. Even though he has now strengthened Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Messi and Barcelona's relationship remains close.

Later Barcelona were said to be still trying to get La Pulga back. They wanted the player to end his outstanding career at Camp Nou.

"We will build the Leo Messi statue outside Camp Nou. A decision has been made," Laporta said while speaking at the Barcelona General Assembly, reported by Sportkeeda.

Messi made his debut with the Blaugrana in 2004. During the Barca uniform, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner succeeded in establishing himself as the club's top goalscorer.

In total he scored 672 goals in 778 appearances. In addition, Messi also won 35 trophies, including 10 La Liga titles and four European Champions League titles.

However, Messi, 35, then left his boyhood club last summer. He left because the Catalan giant was unable to extend his contract.

The Argentine moved to France and joined PSG on a free transfer before the 2021/2022 season and helped his new club lift the Ligue 1 title in its first season.

Currently Messi is under contract with PSG until the summer of 2023. He also has a great opportunity to return to Camp Nou on a free transfer after his contract with Les Parisiens is complete.
