JAKARTA - Argentine legal authorities on Sunday seized data from the doctor who treated Diego Maradona as part of an investigation into the death of the world football legend earlier this week.
Maradona passed away on Wednesday, November 25 at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack.
The investigation was carried out at the request of the public prosecutor in the elite suburb of Buenos Aires, San Isidro, after being approved by a local judge, said a statement from the prosecutor's office.
"Last Saturday, the investigation and collection of evidence were followed by interviews with a number of people including the deceased's direct relatives," the statement said.
"The accumulated evidence suggests that a search of Doctor Leopoldo Luque's home and office is necessary."
The public prosecutor did not disclose any further information on what constituted the investigation.
"They took medical data," Luque told a local television station after his home and office were ransacked.
"There is no malpractice," he added, adding that he was not responsible for Maradona's death.
"I am doing my best to help Diego. He needs help," Luque said, referring to the substance addiction problem that has gripped Maradona for years.
Maradona's lawyer, Matias Moria, said on Thursday, November 26 that he would ask for an in-depth investigation into the cause of Maradona's death while criticizing the slow response of emergency medics.
"The ambulance arrived in more than 30 minutes, criminal idiocy," Matias tweeted on his personal Twitter account.
