The 2023 U-20 World Cup Is Getting Closer, Menpora: Six Stadiums Are Ready To Use

JAKARTA - Indonesia continues to prepare to host the 2023 U-20 World Cup. The grand event is planned to be held in six magnificent stadiums in the country.

Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali ensured that the six main stadiums were ready for use.

In addition, the 2023 U-20 World Cup support field is also ready to be used for the teams in the event which will take place from May 20 to June 11, 2023.

Zainudin stated that the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) in charge of infrastructure has also carried out a minor renovation of the stadium which is currently still being used for domestic league matches.

"But overall FIFA doesn't matter because it's just a minor fix. Six main stadiums and training support fields are all ready in six cities," said Zainudin, as quoted by Antara.

The six stadiums that have been prepared for the U-20 World Cup include the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta, the Jakabaring Stadium in Palembang, Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung.

Then there is the Manahan Stadium in Solo, the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya and the Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Gianyar, Bali.

The U-20 World Cup was supposed to be held last year, but FIFA decided to postpone it until next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minister of Youth and Sports said that FIFA again conducted an inspection of preparations for the 2023 U-20 World Cup in Indonesia in October.

However, he asked the public not to doubt the implementation of the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia considering that there is an official logo as well as a mascot.

Meanwhile, PSSI General Chair Mochamad Iriawan has also ensured the readiness of Gelora Bung Tomo Surabaya as one of the venues for the match that has been prepared.

"We are still asking the six stadiums to go to FIFA. The six stadiums include Surabaya, which will still be used as well," said Iriawan.

"And we chatted with the Mayor of Surabaya and I asked how to handle waste...so God willing, we can (use it)," he continued.
