Ronaldo, Messi Prints 672 Non-Penalty Goals: Most In History

JAKARTA Lionel Messi has succeeded in setting a new record as a player with the most non-performing goals in history through his rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Argentina international scored his only goal to help Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) win over hosts Olympique Lyon in France's eighth week of Ligue 1 at the Parc OL, Monday, September 19 in the morning WIB.

The additional one goal made La Pulga total 672 non-penalty goals in his professional career. That number surpassed Ronaldo, who recorded only 671 non-performing goals.

In addition, Messi also overtook Ronaldo regarding the number of matches to reach that record. He was recorded to have played only 150 games less than the Manchester United superstar.

However, in total including a penalty, Ronaldo is still listed as the goalscorer with the most goals than Messi. The Portugal international scored a total of 699 goals in 941 matches in all competitions for four different clubs.

Ronaldo has also scored more than 50 goals in one season for six consecutive seasons for Real Madrid between 2010/2011 and 2015/2016.

Meanwhile, Messi scored 688 goals in 822 competitive matches in all competitions for Barcelona and PSG. In addition, he also scored more than 30 goals in one season for 13 consecutive seasons for Barcelona between 2008/2009 and 2020/2021.

So far, Ronaldo has made the most appearances for his country compared to Messi. The 37-year-old striker has made 189 appearances for Portugal.

He has appeared in four World Cups, five European Championships, one Nations League Final and one Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, Messi has just made 162 appearances for Argentina. Just like Ronaldo, he also played four World Cups and six Copa Americas.
