Poor Chelsea! Leicester Rejected Three Offers To Get Wesley Fofana Despite Being Willing To Pay IDR 1.2 Trillion

JAKARTA - Chelsea's efforts to get the services of Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana in this summer's market seem to have reached a dead end. Because the three offers that have been submitted have been rejected by Leicester.

Quoted from Sky Sports, Chelsea have made a recent submission for a total of 70 million pounds or IDR 1.2 trillion. This was done by the Blues after their two bids were rejected by Leicester.

Leicester rejected two previous offers because they insisted that Fofana would not be sold. The French player is trying to keep the club because he has just signed a contract extension with a duration of two years or until the end of June 2027.

Chelsea's insistence on bringing in Fofana cannot be separated from the absence of a replacement for the defender position after being left by Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. Both names chose to leave Stamford Bridge because their contracts expired at the end of last June.

So far, Thomas Tuchel's squad has only managed to bring in one defender, namely Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. To get Koulibaly, Chelsea poured funds reaching 32 million pounds or around Rp571 billion along with other additions in a four-year contract.

Fofana was previously signed by Leicester from French League club Saint-Etienne in the summer of 2020.

The player appeared in 11 Leicester games with one goal in 978 minutes played last season. He is rarely used because he is mostly struggling with a calf fracture that he got in August 2021.

After undergoing surgery and recovery, the Marseille-born player was only able to return to play in March 2021. Since then, he has shown brilliant performances that have attracted a number of European teams to sign him.
