Stopped In First Round Of 2022 BWF World Championship, Chico: I Played Less Calmly And Easily Died Alone

JAKARTA - Men's singles badminton player Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo became the first Indonesian representative to stop in the opening round of the 2022 BWF World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, Monday.

Chico bowed to Malaysia's Ng Tze Yong in two straight games 16-21, 10-21 after struggling for 40 minutes.

"Today, the opponent played very well, while I played less calmly and easily died by myself. Not tense, but indeed I couldn't put out my best game. Especially in the second game, I didn't play well," Chico said as quoted by Antara.

In the match that became the second meeting with Yong, Chico looked difficult to maintain the rhythm of the game. Yong's own game was not too dominating, but the 42nd ranked player was able to play a long rally to drain the opponent's energy.

Technically, Chico also performed quite well, but unfortunately he often made a mistake and died by himself, giving Yong an opportunity to get up.

"In the future, I want to improve the pattern of the game and how to play it when I'm on the field. Calmness must also be improved," said Chico.

Another difficulty that Chico faced was also about the different field conditions compared to the training and testing phase the day before. Even so, he admits the opponent is more shrewd and able to adapt better.

"The field conditions compared to yesterday's test, winning and losing the wind is more pronounced but that's not an excuse either because the opponent must feel the same way," he concluded.
