JAKARTA - Chelsea have officially signed Brighton & Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella. The Spain international was presented with a six-year contract.

Chelsea have officially announced the deal on their social media on Friday, 5 August WIB. The 24-year-old player was obtained at a price of 60 million pounds or Rp1 trillion.

"Following reports from various media this week, we can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Brighton for the signing of Marc Cucurella," Chelsea wrote on their Twitter.

Cucurella's transfer broke Brighton's sales record. The amount Chelsea paid exceeds the £50m Arsenal spent on centre-back Ben White last summer.

In addition, this transfer also equals the record purchase for a full-back. The same amount was spent by Manchester City when they brought Joao Cancelo from Juventus to the Etihad in 2019.

"I am very happy. This is a great opportunity for me to join one of the best clubs in the world. I will work hard to find happiness here and help the team," said Cucurella, reported by BBC Sport.

Cucurella is Chelsea's fourth major signing of the summer. Previously the Blues had got Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and England wonderkid Carney Chukwuemeka.

The 24-year-old left-back scored one goal in 38 games last season with the Seagulls. It was Cucurella's only season at Brighton having joined from Getafe earlier this season.
