JAKARTA - Chelsea have officially signed England youth player Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa. The 18-year-old is tied to a six-year contract.

The Blues announced the deal on the evening of Thursday, August 4th. They spent 20 million pounds (Rp 361 billion) to land the player.

"I can't forget Chelsea over the last few days. So I'm happy and relieved because it's all over," Chukwuemeka said.

Chukwuemeka is one of England's best players at the moment. He has been called up to the age group national team and was given the trust of being the team captain.

This player was part of the squad at the U-19 European Cup last July. Since then it has been targeted by several big clubs.

AC Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund, are said to be interested in getting him. However, he prefers to join Chelsea.

"I'm really excited and can't wait to get on the pitch, meet all the players and try to win games and trophies with Chelsea," he said.

Chukwuemeka, who made 12 appearances for Villa last season, is under contract until the end of the 2022/2023 season. However, he refused to extend the contract.

Chukwuemeka is Chelsea's third signing of the summer. Previously they had signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.

In addition, they also signed a young United States goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina. However, the 18-year-old will remain on loan until the end of the Major League Soccer (MLS) season.

Chelsea are likely to land Spanish defender Marc Cucurella from Brighton in the near future. The player previously turned down a £30 million offer from Manchester City in July.
