JAKARTA - Boxing icon Floyd Mayweather is getting ready to hold another exhibition fight. Mayweather will challenge Japanese MMA star Mikuru Asakura.

Quoted from The Sun, Wednesday, Money - Mayweather's nickname - confirmed he would return to the ring for his third exhibition fight in September. The fight comes just months after he vanquished Dan Moore in the United Arab Emirates.

Mayweather, who is now 45 years old, has actually retired from the world of professional boxing since 2017. Money's decision to hang up his boxing gloves was made after holding a money-laden fight against UFC icon Conor McGregor.

The encounter was won by Mayweather and increased his record to 50-0 by knockout in the 10th round. The winner of the fight gets a prize of 130 million pounds or Rp. 2.3 trillion.

Although after that Mayweather retired from the professional ring, he continued to hold exhibition matches. One of them was with YouTuber Logan Paul at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida last summer which ended without a winner.

The American legend will return to action on September 25 against Asakura with the fight scheduled to take place at the Saitama Super Arena.

Although the schedule has been obtained, the duel rules have not yet been announced. It is hoped, however, that the duel will follow the same format as Mayweather's previous exhibition duels and will be contested for eight rounds.

Mayweather welcomed the schedule enthusiastically and said he was still in the ring to cheer his fans on even though he was professionally finished.

"My legacy (of my achievements in the ring) is engraved in stone, as I said before," Mayweather told reporters after announcing his return.

"But it's still great to travel the world and entertain people from all walks of life."
