Rarely, Universidad Catolica Executes Penalties A Month After Being Awarded The Referee

JAKARTA - The head of the Chilean League, Universidad Catolica, executed a penalty on Wednesday local time, or almost a month after the referee gave him the match against Curico Unido, 15 October.

Catolica was 2-0 down at Curico Unido on 15 October when a penalty was awarded. However, while the incident was being reviewed by VAR officers, the scoreboard caught fire, which caused the power to go out and the match was stopped.

Four days later, the Chilean League (ANFP) confirmed that under the VAR, a penalty had been awarded and decided that the game would be played on Wednesday, 11 November, starting at the point where the match ended.

Interestingly, Cesar Pinares, the player who was fouled for a penalty, has joined Brazilian club Gremio.

There was further drama when the match restarted. Curico goalkeeper Fabian Cerda twice saved penalties but a repeat was ordered as he was judged to have moved before the ball was kicked, and Fernando Zampedri converted it on Catolica's third attempt.

Curico, who scored both of their goals on penalties before the game was stopped, ended up winning 3-2. Curico added one more from a penalty before Zampedri pulled one back for Catolica.
