JAKARTA - Persija loaned 19-year-old defender Barnabas Sobor to Liga 2 team PSPS Riau for the 2022-2023 season.

Quoted from Antara, Tuesday, Persija stated that the decision was taken based on the recommendation of coach Thomas Doll who wanted to give the former Persewangi player more playing time.

"It is important for him to get playing time. The condition of the team now has a lot of defenders. That's why we decided to loan Sobor to a club that allows him to play," said the German coach.

Doll considers Barnabas to have the ability and high motivation to continue to develop which makes Doll impatient to see the development of his players in PSPS.

"I will see his progress at PSPS. Of course, the opportunity to play with Persija will always be open to him," said Doll.

Barnabas Sobor was signed by Persija in May 2022 on a three-season contract. He has twice played for the Kemayoran Tigers in the 2022 President's Cup pre-season tournament.

Barnabas was summoned several times to attend the training camp (TC) for the U-19 national team under coach Shin Tae-yong, both at home and abroad.

As for PSPS, they have ambitions of returning to the Indonesian League 1 which they haven't tasted since 2014.

PSPS has replaced 19 players and retained six players from the previous season to form a new force heading into League 1.
