JAKARTA - Ducati team rider Andrea Dovizioso announced Tuesday that he will not be on the MotoGP grid from 2021, ending a 13-year streak of participation in the premier class.

The Italian rider did not receive a contract extension with Ducati and was said to be taking on the task of a test rider next year.

However, Dovi, through social media, gave a glimpse of his future career.

"This is what I will do in 2021," began Dovi.

"Over the last few months, I have received a number of offers to work as a test rider in the development of the MotoGP project and I am very grateful for the consideration received by the manufacturers.

"However, I have decided not to make any commitments and stay apart from the formal agreement for now.

"I have a lot of passion for racing. I still have the ambition to compete and fight to win.

"I will return to MotoGP as soon as I find a project that is driven by the same passion and ambition that I have and in an organization that has the same goals, values and methods of working.

"Now I am focused on completing this World Championship in the best possible way, and I have started developing a number of projects with my partners."

The 34-year-old racer is currently ranked sixth in the provisional riders' standings, 45 points adrift of Joan Mir who is at the top with two races remaining.

Dovi in the last three seasons has always finished runner-up in the standings and has never been a MotoGP world champion.
