JAKARTA - Former Juventus player, Mauro Camoranesi, has resigned his position as assistant coach of Olympique Marseille. He only worked for one week as an assistant to Igor Tudor.

The former Italy international winger who won the 2006 World Cup previously coached Slovenian club Maribor. He was contracted for three years at the club.

Unfortunately, he didn't last long there. His contract ended early because it was judged not to match the club's management expectations.

Camoranesi then accepted an offer from his former teammate at Juventus, Igor Tudor.

In his first press conference last week, Tudor said Camoranesi would act as his "right hand man" at Marseille.

"Igor called me to help him at the start, while waiting to finish his staff," the 45-year-old said as reported by the Daily Star via L'Equipe.

Camoranesi has reportedly stepped back to return to Italy to pursue his own managerial ambitions. He is reportedly eyeing a number of positions as main coach.

That may be an uphill task for Camoranesi, who so far has a minimal coaching CV. Apart from coaching, Camoranesi has worked in the Italian media as a pundit.

Camoranesi had an illustrious career as a player. He scored 55 caps for Italy, scored four goals, and contributed 32 goals and 72 assists in 287 games for Juventus.

Camoranesi finished his playing career at Racing Club in his native Argentina. Then returned to Europe to pursue a coaching career. After getting his licence, he has worked for clubs in Mexico, Argentina and Slovenia.
