KOI: Special Committee Responsible For Winning 2032 Olympic Bidding

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari said that Indonesia will soon form a special committee which will be responsible for winning the bidding process to host the 2032 Olympics.

According to Oktohari, the plan is a follow-up to President Joko Widodo's directives regarding the seriousness of Indonesia's candidacy to host the 2032 Olympics.

The special committee will later consist of various ministries and institutions as well as related stakeholders, including KOI.

"This special committee is the one responsible for winning the bidding process. Later we will review and discuss with stakeholders and related ministries / agencies and agencies. Of course, our main stakeholders are to form this special team, ”said Oktohari at the KOI office, Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Wednesday.

Oktohari explained, the special committee will also be tasked with managing, submitting applications, implementing and being responsible for the budget. In addition, his duties also include preparation of proposals and bid presentation materials.

Oktohari hopes that stakeholders and related ministries and institutions can immediately coordinate to form and determine members of a special committee. That way, KOI can determine the preparatory steps that need to be done next, especially when the bidding competition is also getting tighter.

Indonesia will compete with Australia, India, Korean Unification, China and Germany. Recently, Qatar also expressed its seriousness to host the four-yearly sports event.

"The hope is that it can be formed soon so that we can immediately take more concrete steps to win Indonesia as the host of the 2032 Olympics," he said.

As for the deadline for bidding preparation, according to Oktohari, it will take up to eight years before the event is held or in 2024. However, in the next two to three years, Indonesia must at least be truly ready to face the bidding process.

The formation of a special committee will then be determined through a Presidential Decree.
