JAKARTA - New Zealand's Liam Lawson has been given a new assignment as a reserve driver for the Red Bull Racing team after the F1 leaders expelled the Vips Jury following racist comments.

Red Bull Racing terminated Vips' contract on Tuesday after their investigation found that the young Estonian driver used racist remarks while playing a live-streamed video game in which Lawson also played as one of his competitors.

"Liam Lawson fills the role following the announcement of the Vips Jury," said Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner at the British Grand Prix, Silverstone.

Lawson (20) is currently in his second year in F2 with the Carlin team.

India's Jehan Daruvala, who took part in a private test with McLaren last week, and Norway's Dennis Hauger are also Red Bull Racing junior drivers who compete in F2 and have super licenses.

Horner said both drivers were doing well and their progress was being monitored.

Red Bull Racing is certain that there will be no vacant seats to race in F1 next year and the role of the reserve drivers is basically as back-up for the two existing drivers and can be dropped at any time if they are unable to race.
