This was revealed after a recorded conversation on the WhatsApp platform between the former Spain defender and Rubiales was leaked by the El Confidencial newspaper. The conversation took place between July 16, 2020 and August 8, 2020.

The player who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain has never won the biggest individual award in football. However, he once felt he had the opportunity to win the Ballon d'Or.

Rubiales who received the message also gave a response. However, he said he was willing to help the Spanish national team defender as much as he could, but still had limited authority in the matter.
