Purchased Just To Make It Back Up, Van De Beek Praised By Solskjaer

JAKARTA - Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, believes Donny van de Beek will have an important role for the Red Devils this season, even though he has rarely played since he was brought in.

Van de Beek was bought by United from Ajax at the end of August, but he only entered the starting eleven twice, both of which were always in the Premier League Cup.

Meanwhile, in the English Premier League and Champions League, Van de Beek is always used as a substitute.

For Solskjaer, his decision not to play Van de Beek from the start, actually shows a positive signal that MU has a good squad depth.

"That we don't have to play him in every game, it speaks a lot about the depth of this squad, because we have other players," said Solskjaer, quoted by Antara from MU's official website, Tuesday night.

"Also, it shows our ambition, because we want to win a trophy this year. And Donny will play an important role this season," he added.

Furthermore, Solskjaer considered that there was a misconception among the general public that an important player must immediately play in his first three games since he arrived.

"You have to understand that a player doesn't have to start in his first three games to become an important figure in the squad," he said.

"I will be disappointed if my team-mates think so. Donny is a very important player for us. Don't worry," concluded Solskjaer.

Van de Beek may hope that Solskjaer's words can be realized with confidence when Manchester United host RB Leipzig in the Champions League Group H continued at Old Trafford, Wednesday local time (Thursday WIB).

MU started the Champions League on a positive note, winning over last season's finalists Paris Saint-Germain in France, a week ago.
