Shin Tae-yong's Performance In The National Team Begins To Be Questioned, Hamka Hamzah: Good Coaches Must Be Given A Chance

JAKARTA - The performance of the Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, began to be questioned after his squad could only win a bronze medal at the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi. In the midst of this situation, former Indonesian national team player Hamka Hamzah gave a different view.

Hamka assessed that Shin Tae-yong's presence in the Indonesian national team could be an enlightenment and a breath of fresh air. However, this must be accompanied by adequate time related opportunities for the coach to be able to prove the positive fruit of his performance.

"Shin Tae-yong is a good coach, he came here (Indonesia) to improve football, especially Indonesian players," said Hamka Hamzah when met in the South Jakarta area, Monday, May 30 at noon WIB.

“We know this Shin who instilled physique and discipline number one. So if given the opportunity two or three more years. Indonesia can win at the Southeast Asian level first, but Shin Tae-yong must be given a chance," he continued.

Hamka Hamzah then also considered that Indonesia was often too quick to make decisions to replace players if the results did not match. He considered it an inappropriate decision because it could actually be an obstacle in the process of developing the national team.

"That's Indonesia's weakness, it failed to fire once. When will it grow? We change coaches, change players too of course. Coaches have different tastes," added Hamka Hamzah.

“So give it a chance first, that way we can see our younger brothers and sisters already playing in Europe and Asia. Give Shin Tae-yong a chance until his contract expires," concluded Hamka Hamzah.
