Klopp Says About Liverpool's Coating Player Victory Over Southampton: A Little Exaggerated, But Very Touching

JAKARTA - Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp was flattered by his team's 2-1 win against Southampton. The reason, in that match, Klopp chose to field a coating player.

In the match at St Mery's Stadium on Wednesday 18 May this morning, Klopp made nine changes to his team composition. He did not even include his mainstay players, namely Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk who were injured.

"It's a bit of an exaggeration but it was very touching because of what the players did. I told them after the game what I did for a few days to them and had to be done because the situation was quite bad," Klopp said.

Klopp said that there is Takumi Minamino who rarely plays but can perform optimally. There is also Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who also does not often enter the squad so his condition is quite good.

Two young players, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are also considered by Klopp to give everything on the field. Therefore, the coach is satisfied because he made nine changes but his team performed well.

"We will have a lot of problems if we play a player who played 120 minutes on Saturday. After making nine changes, if it doesn't work, it's my responsibility," Klopp said.

"Now it works, it's the player's responsibility. I think they did very well,'' Klopp added.

Liverpool's victory in this match could not be separated from the contribution of Takumi Minamino's goals in the 27th minute and Joel Matip in the 67th minute. Meanwhile, the only goal for the hosts was created by Redmond's execution when the game had only been running for 13 minutes.

The addition of three points from this match against Southampton makes the Reds able to cut the distance with Manchester City at the top of the standings. Currently, Liverpool are in second place with 89 points and only one point behind The Citizens.
