Finally! Anthony Ginting Wins First Win At Thomas Cup 2022

JAKARTA – Anthony Sinisuka Ginting finally got his first win in this year's Thomas Cup. The victory was obtained in the quarter-finals.

He got the record after defeating the Chinese representative Zhao Jun Peng on Thursday, May 12 night. The badminton player from West Java won a dramatic rubber game 21-12, 25-27, 21-17.

Ginting previously did not get a single win from the three matches he played during the group stage. His last defeat was when he played in the first match against Korea in the last match of the group stage.

At that time, the fifth ranked athlete in the world gave up the rubber game 16-21, 21-15, 14-22 to Heo Kwanghee. Prior to that defeat, he had already lost to Loh Kean Yew (Singapore) and Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand).

In the match against Zhao Jun Peng, Anthony performed well in the first game. He scored six points in a row and managed to lead the whole game before coming out victorious.

Anthony also managed to lead from the start of the second game before dropping in the final points after his opponent identified the score 16-16. He was faced with a tight match after that before being forced to give up.

In the deciding game, Anthony had fallen behind before coming back after the interval and scoring seven straight points to lead 18-11. His opponent had reduced the score to 18-17, but three consecutive points after that helped Indonesia lead 1-0 over China.

Indonesia is the defending champion in the Thomas Cup after winning the previous edition in 2021. If this year they can get past the quarter-finals, then Anthony and his friends will meet Japan, who beat Chinese Taipei.
