Arteta's Confession After Nketiah Scored 2 Goals Against Chelsea: I Should Have Played Him More, I'm Not Being Fair

JAKARTA - Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has admitted that he has been unfair to Eddie Nketiah so far. The confession was revealed by Arteta after the player proved his ability by scoring two goals for the Gunners against Chelsea.

"I should have played it more (Eddie Nketiah). I told him I was unfair," Arteta told the BBC after the game.

Before Arteta's statement appeared, Nketiah had complained that he was frustrated because he had minimal playing opportunities. In fact, his contract will also expire this summer.

Arsenal have entered into new contract talks with Nketiah. But the striker has reportedly asked for guaranteed regular playing time before signing a new contract.

"There are talks and offers of a new contract, but right now my goal is to play football and play regularly. That's my ambition and that's what I hope for, but at the same time I'm at Arsenal, I love Arsenal," Nketiah said.

Even though he was marginalized, Nketiah was able to prove his sharpness against Chelsea. In the match at Stamford Bridge Stadium, Thursday morning, Nketiah scored two goals from Arsenal's 4-2 victory over Chelsea.

Nketiah scored the opener after 13 minutes. Timo Werner then equalized 1-1 before Arsenal took a 2-1 lead through Emile Smith Rowe in the 27th minute.

The Blues equalized again before the break through Cesar Azpilicueta. Nketiah scored again in the second half before Bukayo Saka closed Arsenal's win to 4-2.

The victory made Arsenal again tighten the competition for the top four of the 2021/2022 Premier League standings. Even though they are in fifth position, the points for the Gunners are currently the same as the fourth ranked team, Tottenham Hotspur, which collects 57 points.
