JAKARTA - Boxer Ebanie Bridges has revealed that he wants to face Shannon Courtenay again in a rematch despite his battered face in the previous encounter.
Bridges faced the Briton in April 2021 where she lost on points and saw Courtenay claim the vacant WBA women's bantamweight title. The Australian athlete's face was badly damaged and his eyes were swollen after the 10-round fight.
However, with the sexy blonde winning the IBF bantamweight belt last month, she turned her attention to the rematch.
Bridges took to Instagram to celebrate one year of the fight. He asked his loyal fans if there should be a sequel between him and Courtenay.
“1 year ago today Shanny and I shared an amazing night together. A fight that boxing fans will remember for years to come and a great night for women's boxing. It was my intro to the world stage, and a great intro," Bridges wrote.
"I may not win the fight but I know I won hearts and more.
“I can't wait to make Bridges Courtenay 2 in the future. Who wants to see this fight?”
Courtenay lost his title in October 2021 to Jamie Mitchell, leading fans to question whether Bridges deserved his belt back so soon.
And Bridges responded by confirming that he won't be taking on his rival any time soon.
"Don't worry he won't get a quick rematch but it has to happen," Bridges posted on her Instagram comment section.
Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed after Bridges' win over Maria Cecilia Roman last month that Bridges could take part in up to three more fights this year.
He advised the Australian to choose against the likes of Yulihan Luna and Jamie Mitchell in a unification bout, as well as Courtenay as his next opponent.
