Optimistic That The Men's Volleyball National Team Defends Gold At The Hanoi SEA Games, Menpora: I Believe In The Quality Of The Players

JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali believes the men's volleyball team can defend the gold medal at the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi on May 12-23.

The men's volleyball team took home the gold medal from the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines. At that time they occupied the top podium after defeating the hosts in the final match.

"I believe and believe in the quality of the players, with this competition, God willing, we can still maintain the Vietnam gold medal in the future," Amali said in an official statement.

So far, the volleyball national team has not been formed for the event in the Southeast Asian region. Therefore, they have not been able to start the national training camp (Pelatnas).

The Minister of Youth and Sports said that currently his party is still waiting for a review decision regarding the certainty of sending the volleyball national team to the Hanoi SEA Games later. The decision is likely to be out before the end of this month.

"We are waiting for the review team, the review team is looking at (potential achievements) we cannot force it. If the review team turns out to be what the decision will be. We are objective," said the Menpora.

Volleyball itself is one of the leading sports in the Great Design of National Sports (DBON). This DBON has a legal basis for Presidential Regulation Number 86 of 2021.

The Minister of Youth and Sports is optimistic that the existence of DBON and a healthy Proliga competition will open up opportunities for the birth of talent and potential young players. Thus, automatically a strong national team will also be formed.

"Clubs are increasing every year. So, of course, there are more choices for talents and seeds to fill the Indonesian national team," said Amali.
