JAKARTA – The Mandalika Circuit received a grade A homologation from the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM). This ensures that the circuit can hold MotoGP class races.

The grading for the Mandalika circuit was carried out in the meeting after the second free practice (FP2) on Friday, March 18 afternoon.

Some of the MotoGP riders were present at the meeting which was attended by the CoC (Clerk of COurse), representatives of IMI, Mike Webbs as Race Director, Carlos Ezpeleta as Managing Director of Dorna, and Loris Capirossi (Safety Advisor of Dorna).

"After discussions, the FIM agreed to give homologation grade A so that we can hold the Mandalika 2022 MotoGP Grand Prix," the Managing Director of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) Priandhi Satria in a statement.

Homologation is a procedure for assessing all aspects of racing against circuit licensing standards. The FIM as the world's motor racing authority has six levels of licenses or grades ranging from A to F.

This grade is very important because it will determine what races can be held at the circuit concerned. To be able to hold a Grand Prix like MotoGP, like it or not, the Mandalika Circuit must have a grade A license.

"Of course this cannot be separated from the support of Pak Hadi Tjahjanto as field commander, relevant ministries, all parties, so that we can hold this event on Saturday and Sunday tomorrow," said Priandhi.

The race at the Mandalika Circuit will be held on Sunday, March 20. This is the second series in the MotoGP calendar this year.

The first and second free practice took place on Friday. Pol Espargaro was fastest in FP1, while defending champion Fabio Quartararo was fastest in FP2.
