7 Indonesian Representatives Qualify For The Quarter-Finals Of All England 2022, The Most Men's Doubles

JAKARTA - Seven of the nine Indonesian representatives who appeared in the second round of the 2022 All England at Utlita Arena Birmingham, Thursday local time, advanced to the quarter-finals of the oldest badminton tournament in the world.

Launching Antara, Friday, the men's doubles sector sent the most players to the quarter-finals which will be held starting this Friday night.

Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana became the first Indonesian representatives to secure a ticket to the quarter-finals thanks to their victory over Malaysian seeds Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi. The Cipayung National Pelatnas coating pair managed to get through a tough match that had to continue with the rubber game to win 24-22, 13-21, 21-17.

Bagas/Fikri's escape was followed by world number one pair Marcus Fernaldi/Kevin Sanjaya. The top seed also had to go through a three-game drama against Japanese representatives Akira Koga/Taichi Saito to win with a score of 15-21, 21-18, 21-18.

The men's doubles added their representation to the quarter-finals through Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan who won over the Chinese duo Liu Cheng/Zhang Nan, followed by the young pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin who managed to beat Liu Yu Chen/Zhou Hao Dong through the rubber game.

From the men's singles sector, Indonesia still has two remaining representatives, namely Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie.

Indonesia was able to add one more representative to play in the quarter-finals thanks to Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti's mixed doubles victory over Malaysia's representatives.

Meanwhile, the only Indonesian women's doubles representatives at All England, Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu, could not go any further after deciding to withdraw in the middle of the match due to Apriyani's injury.

"Apriyani had a relapse in her right calf. The trigger in the second game when she wanted to pick up the ball was an inappropriate movement. After that her movement became limited. Currently, the team of match doctors and PBSI doctors are currently in the process of finding out how severe the injury is," said the coach. Indonesian women's doubles, Eng Hian in a statement from PBSI.
