JAKARTA – The All-Indonesian Swimming Association (PRSI) hopes that the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KO) will increase the swimmer quota for the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi which will take place on 12-23 May 2022.

Currently, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and KOI have set a quota of 16 swimmers for the 2021 SEA Games. The limited quota makes it difficult for PRSI to accommodate young swimmers.

"We still hope that the Ministry of Youth and Sports and KOI can increase the quota of 16 swimmers sent to the SEA Games to accommodate these talented young swimmers for regeneration," said Vice President of PB PRSI Harlin Rahardjo.

Currently PRSI is still looking for swimmers who are ready to depart for the two-year multi-branch event. The process was carried out through a rigorous selection carried out at the national training center (Pelatnas).

During the national selection, athletes are scheduled to take part in the time trial selection on a regular basis. The latest selection was held on Thursday, March 10, which was participated by Pelatnas and non-Pelatnas swimmers who were ranked in the top 10 nationally.

"This time trial selection aims to select the 16 core swimmers of the Indonesian national team who will compete in the 2022 SEA Games Vietnam according to the quota. After a 3 day time trial, the names of the 16 swimmers will be submitted to the SEA Games committee," said Harlin Rahardjo.

In the time trial, the Pelatnas swimmers still dominated. However, young swimmers should still be wary of being able to penetrate the top two.

The fierce competition looks like in the 100 meters freestyle. In that number, the swimmer Serenna Muslim from West Sumatra (18 years) competed with Patrisia Yosita.

Fierce competition also occurred in the 50 meter breaststroke. In this number, 18-year-old swimming athlete Adelia almost beat Vannesae Evato.

In other numbers, more fierce competition occurs. The 20-year-old swimmer, Pande Made Iron Digjaya, was able to beat his senior, Gagarin Yus, in the 50m breaststroke. The impressive performances of these young swimmers made PRSI have high hopes for an increase in the quota.

"We also give this time trial an opportunity for non-Pelatnas swimmers who have been practicing to be able to participate. If they are able to pass the specified limit, they may be selected for the 2022 SEA Games national team," said Head Coach Albert Sutanto.

Currently, some Pelatnas swimmers are approaching their best time. Among them are Glen Victor Sutanto and Patrisia Yosita.

Meanwhile, the young Indonesian national team swimmers are still undergoing strenuous training so they cannot be forced to break through the fastest time.

"The national training swimmers are still undergoing heavy training, they cannot be forced now. But they have progressed. We will adjust the rhythm in the remaining 8 weeks, their peak performance could explode at the 2022 SEA Games, May," said Albert.

PRSI is still holding the next time trial on Saturday and Sunday, 11-12 March 2022.
