Calf Injury, Indonesian Women's Doubles Apri/Fadia Delay Debut In Germany Open

JAKARTA - Indonesia's new women's doubles pair, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Ramadhanti were forced to postpone their debut to appear at the German Open on March 8-13. The main reason is that Apriyani Rahayu suffered a right calf injury.

Apriyani's condition was conveyed directly by the head coach of the women's doubles, Eng Hian. Through the PR and Media PP PBSI team, Eng Hian said that Apri suffered an injury a few weeks ago and his condition is now improving.

"Apri suffered a right calf injury a few weeks ago but his condition is now gradually improving and has returned to training while undergoing strengthening," said Eng Hian, who is familiarly called Didi.

Although Apri's condition improved, Eng Hian emphasized that this would not make this badminton player participate in the German Open. Because, apart from considering the physical, the coach revealed the targets that have not been met.

"I see that the standard for playing matches has not been achieved, also based on the results of consultations with the medical team, it is better for April not to play in Germany," he continued.

Eng Hian does not regret his team's absence from the German Open. Instead, he hopes that Apriyani will use the opportunity to prepare to appear at the All England, while her debut with a new partner can begin at the Swiss Open.

"Hopefully he will be ready at the All England and debut with Fadia at the Swiss Open one week later," said Didi.

Apriyani this year will indeed play with two partners at once. He still partnered with Greysia Polii in major tournaments, before Greysia announced her retirement.

Meanwhile, Apriyani was also teamed up with Fadia for the target of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

With the withdrawal of Apri/Fadia, the Indonesian national team only sent six representatives to the German Open. They are Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonatan Christie, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito (men's singles), Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto (men's doubles), Rinov/Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari and Adnan Maulana/Mychelle Chrystine Bandaso (mixed doubles).
