"The arrival of the Governor of North Sumatra to convey about the preparation for PON 2024, then convey his plan to build a sports center with an area of 300 hectares. So we support it," Amali said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 10.
Meanwhile, Gubsu Edy reported on the readiness of sports development in North Sumatra, infrastructure preparation, and the results of a meeting with the Central KONI regarding the decision on which sports to compete in Aceh and Medan.
However, Governor Edy did not specify the number of sports to be competed in or the details of what sports will be played in North Sumatra and Medan.
In addition, Gubsu Edy also said that he would implement the program contained in the Great National Sports Design (DBON) as a reference for sports development in North Sumatra ahead of the 2024 PON.
“The minister supports what will be prepared and indeed this is in line with his book DBON which will be socialized. I also report that there are results for which sports will be competed in Aceh and which will be in Medan, yesterday the General Chairperson of the Central KONI has decided," he continued.
The former chairman of PSSI also said that he would reactivate sports that uphold sportsmanship in order to produce quality athletes.
"We will return to the commandment of sport, namely sportsmanship to get national athletes including the referees," he said.
"So far we have competed, but let alone the quality, the quantity of athletes is not fulfilled at the international level. We hope that with a population of 275 million, we must get not only quantity, but also quality," he added.
