PP Perbasi Calls 21 Players To Prepare For FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualification Against Saudi Arabia And Jordan

JAKARTA – The national basketball parent (PP Perbasi) has officially summoned 21 players. The call-up was in preparation for the FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualifying second window match.

This call was announced through the official Instagram account of the Indonesian basketball team @official_timnasbasket on Wednesday, February 9 evening WIB.

The Indonesian basketball team is scheduled to play two qualifying matches this month. First, Rajko Toroman's team will face Saudi Arabia on February 24, following three days later against Jordan.

Toroman called almost all the players who previously played for the basketball national team in the first window in Lebanon. Only Govinda Saputra was not called back to the training camp.

In addition, the coach also called a number of young players such as Ali Bagir, Aldy Izzatur, Ikram Fadhil, Indra Muhammad, Kelvin Sanjaya, Muhammad Arighi, and Yudha Saputra.

Ali Bagir himself had participated in the national training camp (Pelatnas) in the third window of the 2021 FIBA Asian Cup Qualification. However, at that time he was not brought by the coach.

Coach Toroman had previously monitored the names called for since the first series of IBL 2022 which took place in Jakarta. The monitoring should continue to the second series in Bandung on January 29 to February 5.

However, the Bandung series was recently suspended until early March due to a spike in COVID-19 cases. The extension of the second series will automatically change the schedule for the third series which will take place in Yogyakarta.

In fact, the plan is that Toroman's team will hold a training camp after the third IBL series in Yogyakarta, which is supposed to take place on February 10-16.

When it was calculated, after strengthening each club, the best Indonesian players immediately joined the Indonesian national team. However, those plans were on the way to change due to the delays that occurred in the Bandung series.

In the first qualifying window, Indonesia lost 38-96 against Lebanon in the inaugural match of Group C in the Asian zone in November 2021.

The Red and White squad suffered another defeat when they met Lebanon in the second match. At that time, the Toroman troops had to admit the opponent's advantage with a final score of 64-110.
