COVID-19 Is Still High, Mandalika MotoGP Will Use The Travel Bubble System

JAKARTA – This season's Mandalika MotoGP Grand Prix will implement a travel bubble system. The same system will be used in the pre-season test later.

Deputy Director of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) Cahyadi Wanda said that this step was necessary to maintain the safety and security of everyone involved. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic situation has not improved.

With this system, drivers and officials are immediately separated from the community since landing at Lombok Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport, Lombok.

"They (racers and officials) will be in a bubble and only meet with fellow committee members," Cahyadi said as quoted by ANTARA.

Arriving drivers and officials will first undergo a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Before the test results come out they will remain in the hotel.

They will be allowed to move if the test result is negative. However, the scope of their activities is limited, only hotel to circuit and vice versa.

Before holding the race, the Mandalika Circuit first became a pre-season test. The test is scheduled to take place February 11-13.

The Mandalika Grand Prix is the second series of races this season in the MotoGP calendar. The event will take place March 18-20 after the first series in Qatar is completed.
