Diego Costa Positive For COVID-19

JAKARTA - Attacker Diego Costa was confirmed positive for COVID-19. These results are based on a series of tests conducted ahead of the 2020/21 pre-season training session.

Atletico's official website, Friday morning WIB, announced that apart from Costa, defender Santiago Arias was also confirmed positive in the COVID-19 test.

Both of them contracted COVID-19 while on a short vacation between seasons and the club confirmed that both Costa and Arias immediately went into independent isolation.

The COVID-19 test was carried out on the entire Atletico squad, except for those who are currently strengthening the national teams of their respective countries.

Reported by Antara, Atletico said Costa and Arias did not show any symptoms. Both were instructed to undergo isolation at home according to applicable protocols.

Thus, Costa and Arias will not participate in the inaugural training session ahead of the 2020/21 season which was due to take place at the Wanda Atletico de Madrid training center on Friday local time, but are expected to join after passing the quarantine period.

The 2020/21 Spanish League is scheduled to start rolling out next week, but Atletico received relief from postponing the first round match due to their participation in the Champions League quarter-finals last month.

Atletico's first match against Athletic Bilbao has been postponed to January 13, 2021, while the schedule for the second week which was originally scheduled to visit Levante's headquarters on September 20 is still postponed and a new schedule has not been determined.

Last season Atletico finished third in La Liga, stopped in the last 32 of the Copa del Rey, the Champions League quarter-finals and finished runners up in the Spanish Super Cup which was held in a new format.
