Positively Infected With COVID-19, Five Gresik Petrokimia Players Absent Against Jakarta Electric

JAKARTA -- Five players of the Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk Indonesia volleyball team must miss the Jakarta Electric PLN. The five players were unable to strengthen their team because they tested positive for COVID-19.

Even without these five players, Gresik Petrokimia could put up a fight. They narrowly lost 2-3 (14-25, 19-25, 25-20, 28-26, 10-15) in the match at the Candradimuka Crater Gymnasium, Padepokan Volleyball General of Police Kunarto, Sentul, Bogor, Sunday (30/1/ 2022).

The five players were found to be positive for COVID-19 when performing an antigen swab before entering the match arena.

They are Hanny Budiarti, Nur Kholisah, Geofanny Eka Cahyaningtyas and their two foreign players Brionne Kierra Butler and Jennifer Yanet Alvarez Hernandez. Before appearing the five players even had time to practice in the morning.

Gresik coach Ayub Hidayat said that the absence of the five players affected his team's game on the field. "Children are like traumatized on the field," Ayub said after the match, as quoted by the Proliga website.

Meanwhile, Proliga Deputy Director Reginald Nelwan stated that the COVID-19 case that hit Proliga was something that could not be avoided.

"The committee has tried so that this Proliga season goes well and avoids COVID-19," Reginald said.

Despite winning Jakarta Electric, PLN remains in the last position of the standings. This is because the foster children have so far only obtained two points.
