JAKARTA - Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto has given the green light regarding the implementation of quarantine with a bubble system for sports players who come from abroad.
Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali said that this was conveyed by BNPB Kelapa in a limited cabinet meeting with Vice President Ma'ruf Amin on Monday, January 24.
“It will be implemented the same as the Badminton Championships at the end of last year in Bali. So the system is a bubble system," Amali said in the statement received.
This year Indonesia has a solid sporting agenda. In the single event, there are Davis Cup, MotoGP, IESF 14th Esports World Championships, one of the Rock Climbing World Cup series, as well as Indonesia Master and Indonesia Open.
In addition, Indonesia is also planning to participate in five multi-branch agendas, namely the Hanoi SEA Games (12-23 May), Children of Asia (27 July-8 August), Islamic Solidarity Games Konya (9-18 August), Hangzhou Asian Games (August 9-18). 10-25 September), and the Shantou Asian Youth Games (20-28 December).
The many agendas made the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) submit a quarantine discretionary proposal for sports players who came from abroad to the government. The discretion in question is to give quarantine authority to athletes with a different system.
The proposal has now received the green light from the government. In the process, the Menpora and related parties will continue to communicate with the government regarding the quarantine system with a different system for the sports players.
"But in principle, the implementation of the quarantine is based on the bubble system that was conveyed by the head of BNPB. We will technically communicate with BNPB later. Hopefully we will continue to be the hosts," said Amali.
The proposal regarding the exclusion of quarantine for sports players was initially triggered by the issue of the cancellation of the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP.
The rumor emerged to the public after Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, as the manager of MotoGP, spoke about the quarantine policies of each country hosting the prestigious event.
In a statement, Ezpeleta said that the race would be canceled in a country that required a long quarantine for racing teams. Thus, if Indonesia does not provide quarantine exceptions for sports players, it is very likely that MotoGP in Indonesia can be canceled.
