JAKARTA - The WithU RNF Racing Yamaha team at the theater in Verona, Italy, on Monday removed the curtains covering their new bike as they embark on the MotoGP and MotoE 2022 seasons.

After being left by Petronas as its main sponsor at the end of 2021, the SRT team continued their journey in MotoGP with a new brand, namely RNF Racing and partnered with Italian sponsor WithU.

The independent Yamaha team will be strengthened by experienced Italian rider Andrea Dovizioso and rookie Darryn Binder who was promoted from the Moto3 class to MotoGP this year.

"Our goal this year is to be competitive, surprise everyone and do our best to achieve our goals," said Yamaha RNF founder and team head Razlan Razali on Yamaha's official website.

Binder became the second rider in MotoGP history to dare to jump from Moto3 to MotoGP.

The South African rider tasted his first victory celebration at world level when he triumphed in Catalunya in 2020 and took home an additional five podiums after that in his Moto3 career.

The new livery-clad YZR-M1 will be tested by Binder for the first time in a shakedown session at Sepang before he and Dovizioso undergo a pre-season test session on February 5-6 at the Malaysian circuit.

"For the 2022 season, we aim to be the best at least among the independent teams.

"We want to fight for the Rookie of the year title, even though we know it is a very big challenge when there are five rookies in 2022 and Darryn is the only one of them to jump from Moto3 to MotoGP," said Razali.

Meanwhile, Dovizioso, said Razali, will also need to prove that he is still competitive after having had a hiatus of almost a competitive season when he takes a "leave" from MotoGP in 2021.

"He definitely wants to prove not only to himself, but to everyone, that he still has the motivation, experience and drive to fight in the world championships," said Razali.

Dovi is back in MotoGP after five races at the end of the 2021 season with the SRT team riding Franco Morbidelli's two-year-old Yamaha bike, after his compatriot was promoted to the factory Yamaha team to replace Maverick Vinales who left for Aprilia.

Having lost his seat at Ducati at the end of 2020, Dovi, who is a three-time MotoGP runner-up, underwent a test with Aprilia during his time off from competition, before being given the chance by the SRT team.

He scored points in four of the five races he ran last year, with a best finish of P12 in Valencia.

Dovi will ride a factory Yamaha 2022 motorcycle after signing a direct contract with Yamaha.

Meanwhile, Binder will pilot the 2021-spec M1.

RNF has also stated its commitment to liven up MotoGP until 2026 after signing a contract with Dorna Sports.
