JAKARTA - Mixed martial artist Conor McGregor becomes the highest-paid athlete in 2021. He beat big names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr.

Citing Marca, according to research conducted by Ladbrokes, the athlete who debuted at the UFC in 2013 was recorded as earning £6.2 million or equivalent to Rp121.1 billion per minute.

McGregor is truly phenomenal in the mixed martial arts world. His fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 had 2.4 million pay-per-view purchases.

He also challenged Floyd Mayweather to a professional boxing bout in 2017. The match attracted 4.3 million pay-per-view purchases despite McGregor's eventual defeat.

In second place in the list of athletes with the highest earnings in 2021 is occupied by boxer from Mexico, Canelo Alvarez. The 31-year-old boxer is recorded as earning £323,000 per minute or equivalent to Rp. 6.3 billion.

Alvarez is also one of the best active boxers at the moment. He has won world titles in four different weight classes and is also the first boxer to become the undisputed champion of super middleweight.

Third on this list is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers american football team quarterback, Tom Brady. During 2021 Brady earns 27,000 pounds per minute or equivalent to IDR 528 million.

Brady is widely known as the most popular sports star in the United States. He has won six Super Bowl titles and holds the record for the most Super Bowl appearances and wins.

Meanwhile, completing the top five highest-earning athletes for 2021 is Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar Jr in fourth place and followed by Manchester United (MU) star Cristiano Ronaldo in last place.

Neymar is recorded as having a producer of 23,000 pounds per minute or the equivalent of IDR 449 million. Meanwhile, Ronaldo earned 13 thousand pounds per minute or Rp. 254 million in the year when he was recorded to leave Juventus for MU.
