Perbasi Has Not Dared To Set A Definite Target For The Indonesian Basketball Team At The 2022 SEA Games

JAKARTA – The Central Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi) is still reluctant to set definite targets for the 2022 SEA Games Hanoi.

It is not certain that the regulations for the composition of players that can be lowered in the event are the reason.

Perbasi is preparing the best team to go to the event. The Indonesian Patriots team, which will play in the 2022 IBL, is projected to be able to meet the Perbasi silver medal target in the multi-branch event throughout Southeast Asia.

However, the target of bringing home the silver medal is still tentative. This is because the news of the 2022 SEA Games does not limit the quota of naturalized players that can be lowered by a national team.

"The SEA Games Hanoi plans not to limit naturalized players. We have written that there is a limit. We are still waiting for confirmation," said PP Perbasi chairman Danny Kosasih, quoted from Antara.

If that rule is implemented then it will most likely benefit the home team. On the other hand, Indonesia will be in a disadvantaged position if it reduces the composition of some of the young players who are defending the Patriots.

The Indonesia Patriots are strengthened by the majority of debutants at IBL 2022. This policy is carried out to provide opportunities for athletes to gain experience before big events that Indonesia will participate in.

"We hope that young players can gain experience because the IBL is followed by a strong team and strengthened by foreign players, so that one day they can join the seniors and become a cover for the senior national team," said Danny.

There were only five names that were part of last season's squad out of 17 players for the Patriots this season. They are Ali Bagir Al Hadar, Aldy Izzatur Rahman, Mario Davidson, Dame Diagne, and Serigne Modou Kane.

This season, the Indonesian Patriots are in the Red Division with Satria Muda, West Bandits Solo, Bima Perkasa Jogja Tangerang Hawks, Bumi Borneo Basketball Pontianak, Satya Wacaba Saints Salatiga, and Pacific Caesar.
