Shin Tae-yong Remembers Sweet Moment Against Pep Guardiola

JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, recalled the sweet moments when he was still a football player. He seems to have faced a famous coach, Pep Guardiola.

The story was conveyed by this 51-year-old coach on Deddy Corbuzier's YouTube channel on Tuesday, January 11.

"In 1992, I played for Korea against Spain and there was Pep Guardiola. The match is a sweet memory for me," said the South Korean coach.

Shin Tae-yong's name skyrocketed after taking on the position of coach of the Indonesian national team in 2019. He is also increasingly known for his success at AFF 2020 even though the majority of the players he brings are very young.

Even though he failed to bring home the trophy after losing to Thailand in the final, Shin is still considered to have given a new color to the game of Elkan Baggot and his friends.

This achievement received great appreciation from the Indonesian people. The tactics brought by him are considered to have been successfully implemented in the Garuda squad.

Shin said that what he got today could not be separated from what he learned from elite coaches in Europe such as Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.

"There are coaches that I like. There is Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and Jose Mourinho. I am happy with their tactics. I learned from them, not only tactics but the character of the game," he said.

He is currently preparing the Indonesian national team for the FIFA Matchday on January 24 and 27, 2022. The plan is for Shin to face Bangladesh on FIFA Matchday.

Then on February 14-26 2022, the Indonesian national team will participate in the 2022 AFF U-23 Cup.

In this event, Garuda Muda joined in Group B with Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos. Only the group winners will qualify automatically for the semifinals of the 2022 AFF U-23 Cup.
