JAKARTA - Mayor of Surakarta Gibran Rakabuming Raka welcomed the arrival of the basketball team participating in the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL), West Bandits, which will be headquartered in Solo City, Central Java Province.

This speech was delivered directly by Gibran during the Gading Marten gathering with the West Bandits group at Korem 074/Warastratama Surakarta, Monday, January 10.

"The West Bandits Solo basketball team is extraordinary, young professional figures, such as the President of the West Bandits Solo team, Gading Marten, together with Norman and Choky Sitohang, are committed to raising West Bandits in Solo," Gibran said as quoted by Antara.

Besides basketball, he continued, Solo also has the Persis Solo football team, which won the Indonesian League 2 and entered the Indonesian League 1 next season. He also hopes that the West Bandits basketball team can excel and make the city of Solo proud.

"I see from the composition of its management and players, the West Bandits Solo club is very confident that it can win the IBL," said Gibran.

West Bandits Solo in last season's IBL reached the semifinals. Therefore, his party is optimistic that West Bandits' achievements, especially with the full support of the Surakarta City Government, will continue to increase.

He also said that West Bandits Solo will temporarily occupy the Sritex Arena GOR, Solo, before moving to the Gelora Manahan indoor building, which will soon be completed this year.

"We are re-tendering, there is no loss to the state, later the construction will be resumed. Gelora Manahan, God willing, the construction will be completed this year," said Gibran.
