JAKARTA – The national badminton parent (PBSI) hopes to get the best athlete seeds from the ongoing national selection (Selection) to be fostered in Pelatnas.

The national selection to enter the PBSI National Training Center will begin on Monday, January 10 to January 15 next. A total of 397 athletes from 27 provinces in Indonesia took part in this event.

"PBSI opens access to the best talents to take part in this selection. In this way, it is hoped that the seeds of the best players will be found to later be fostered at the Cipayung National Training Center," said PP PBSI General Chair Agung Firman Sampurna in a written statement received by VOI.

The increasing number of participants for the 2022 National Selection Committee is none other than because the parent organization of Indonesian badminton has changed the selection format.

In the previous selections, participants were only from Division 1 and Division 2. Meanwhile, in the 2022 national selection, all regions were given the same opportunity.

This year's National Selection is part of the regeneration process as well as promotion and relegation. This event targets young players to continue the regeneration of Indonesian badminton.

"The presence of such a large number of participants shows how great the passion and enthusiasm of players from various regions is to compete for tickets to join the Cipayung National Training Center," said Agung.

This year's National Selection was held as a substitute for the National Championship (Kejurnas). PBSI cannot hold the National Championship this year because all provinces in Indonesia have difficulty holding the Provincial Championship (Kejurprov) due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In fact, Kejurprov is an absolute requirement to hold a national level championship.

The national selection uses the format of round robin and knock out matches. The age category of the National Selection participants is divided into the Taruna and Adult categories.
