JAKARTA - The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be used in the 2020 Asian Champions League quarter-finals. This was stated by the Asian soccer body or AFC, Monday, August 24.
The technology was first used in Asian football last year during the last eight of the AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
VAR was then implemented in all 32 matches of the AFC U-23 Cup championship in Thailand in January and will be introduced to AFC club competitions for the first time.
The Asian Champions League is an elite club competition that has been suspended since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reporting from Antara, this competition will be continued again.
Matches take place in Qatar for West Asia on September 14 and in Malaysia on October 16 for East Asia.
Apart from the use of VAR, this elite club competition in Asia will expand contestants to 40 clubs in the group phase starting next season. The same format, namely dividing the region into two (east and west) will still be maintained
Unfortunately, Indonesia has been knocked out of the top 12 eastern regions. To get LCA quota, be it qualification or direct slot, association competition must occupy the top 12 in its territory (west / east).
Indonesia is unable to compete with Myanmar which has one qualifying round for the LCA next season.
