JAKARTA - General Chairperson of the Central Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi) Danny Kosasih emphasized that there is no mercy for players involved in match fixing.

This statement was made by Danny in response to the match fixing case carried out by six players participating in the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) during the 2021 competition season.

"There is no mercy anymore, they must serve the sentence that has been handed down," Danny said as quoted by Antara, Thursday.

He admitted that he was disappointed that the convicts did not learn from the experience of previous similar cases.

"I hope this punishment will make basketball players more respect sportsmanship and no longer do match fixing," he said.

Previously, IBL President Director Junas Miradiarsyah on Wednesday announced the involvement of six players in match-fixing during the 2021 IBL competition season.

The five people came from the Pacific Caesar Surabaya club, namely Aga Siedartha, Arisanda, Gabriel Senduk, Yoseph Wijaya, and Aziz Wardhana, as well as one player from Bali United Basketball, Yerikho Tuasela.

PP Perbasi and IBL have imposed sanctions on the perpetrators in accordance with the federation's rules and regulations for the implementation of the match on September 21, 2021 which have been submitted directly to all relevant parties.

The IBL sentenced the six players to life bans in the IBL sphere. The sanctions imposed are in accordance with the IBL implementing regulations Chapter IV Article 6 Paragraph 16 which reads, "club personnel who violate Chapter IV Article 4 Paragraph 2, namely committing and being involved in fixing match results are prohibited from participating in IBL activities for life and a maximum fine of IDR 100 million. "

"This action is part of our commitment to improve the quality of the league to make it better, professional and healthy," said Junas.

Match fixing by IBL players was first suspected by the club management of Pacific Caesar Surabaya who saw irregularities made by several players at the club in several matches during the regular phase of the IBL 2021 season competition.

After receiving the report, in May 2021 IBL together with PP Perbasi formed a team to conduct an investigation until they finally obtained evidence and confessions from the parties involved.
